* my cute friend holly had a pretty major surgery a couple of weeks ago. she is home and recovering! ya! can't wait for her to feel better! i sure miss her!
* my mom and i were able to attend time out for women a couple of weekends ago! what an amazing spiritual experience! we were truly blessed to be able to go! this event was on my mom's 60th birthday! there were amazing speakers, inspirational music and great company!
we attended both the friday and saturday sessions. the theme this year was "living a joyful life". the speakers were great examples of that!
my fav's were mary ellen edmunds, and kenneth cope and merrilee boyack! so incredible! these pics are with mary ellen and kenneth!
on saturday there was a "joyful life" presentation where they spotlighted 3 women out of the 2047 that were there! i had sent an essay in to the committee to share my mom's story and they read it! i was so excited! here is the essay i wrote about my beautiful mom!
A Joyful Life: My Mother, Sally Carlsen

I am so excited for the opportunity to share with you a peek into my mothers’ joyful life! First of all, the day of this Time Out for Women (September 13th) will by my moms’ 60th birthday! J It is the first time that either one of us has attended this type of event, and we are thrilled!

Sally Carlsen has a life grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ and she faces every day and every trial with a song in her heart. My mom has not had an easy life. She has end
ured many struggles along her way. With the Lords help, she has found peace and strength with each obstacle. Through prayer and music, my mom has found joy- true joy- even during the rough times.

Mom joined the Church when she was 30 years old, with one small child and another on the way. As a single parent she learned quickly that she needed the loving guidance of our Heavenly Father in order to survive, let alone find joy! J As she sang to us each night before bed, we felt the peace and power of her happy life.

Families are a funny thing! They can bring such great happiness or sorrow and heartache. My sweet brother has made some choices that have caused a few heartaches. My mom is amazing! She handles it all with such faith and strength. She reminds me to rely on the Lord and give that heartache she is feeling to Him. The Atonement is her guiding strength through those hard days. She believes in its power to give her the courage to go forward and find the rainbows after the storms. She has learned to delight in the good days and in the little things.

Recently Mom broke her foot and then lost her job shortly thereafter. She could have totally fallen apart, because she is the soul provider in her home. Not my mom! She found the silver lining and decided this was a blessing in disguise! She felt that a door had opened to a new “work from home” job opportunity!

My Mother, Sally Carlsen, is my hero! She lives a joyful life through every trial and triumph, smile and tear! She is an amazing example of living a Christ centered life, each and every day!

i sure love her! and am very proud to be her daughter! happy late birthday mom!
* one of the things i love about the fall is the new seasons and shows on tv! wahoo! some of the ones i am looking forward to are: survivor, biggest loser, ghost whisperer and moonlight!
sorry this was so long! i will try to be better about posting more often so you little bums don't get so tired of reading my mammoth posts! lol!

happy fall y'all!

~my best friends mom (maryann) and sister (kristine) moved in with us! they just moved here from colorado and are staying with us until they are able to find a home to buy. i am loving having them here! they are hoping they can find a home within their price range soon, but i am in no hurry to have them move out!

~in the process of finding a home, maryann, was looking for a job! she found not one... but two! lol! she just started the first one last night! she is pretty excited! kristine works from home, so she started working a couple of weeks ago.

i haven't done this for awhile...

sours:

* inventory is tomorrow... i have a million things going on in my head of what i need to do in the next 20 hours! i sure hope i can get it all done!

* my poor grass is suffering... a couple of weeks ago the roofers were here to give us a new roof! that is good, however, they parked a massive size truck on my lawn for a week! i didn't dare put my sprinkler stuff out... i thought they would run it over! so my lawn was neglected for way too long! i water tons at night... so hopefully i can resurrect it! lol!

* i have been so busy the last few weeks because of inventory... done really nothing in my house! and to be honest, this upcoming week doesn't look too much better! (inventory, girls camp etc...) lol!

sweets:

* inventory is tomorrow! i thought it would never come! i am soooooooooooooo ready for it to be over and done! tomorrow at this time i will be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel! wahoo!

* i made some yummy lemon bars yesterday! mmmmmm! i can't stop eating them!

* girls camp is this week! very exciting! i am in charge of a couple activities... that is good... but it sure does add to my plate this week! oh well! i am super excited for camp! and this year is going to be so fun! i just know it! we have such a great group of girls, super cool camp leaders and a really fun theme!

* we are having a yard sale on august 2nd! wahoo! i love yard sales! they are tons of work, but super fun too! i can't wait to get rid of all that junk! ... i mean great stuff!

* i have a really great team at work! colleen and ann have really stepped up to the plate with inventory. i am so proud of them... i honestly could not have done it without them!

* jami is doing better. she had a trachea tube put in this week and they are seeing improvements. i havn't been able to visit her, but am hoping when my life slows down i can! i talk to jeff (her brother) every day, so i am kept in the loop of things.

* in a couple of weeks kevin and i are going to visit my stepdad. i haven't seen him in a few years, and kevin has never met him. that should be an adventure!

* my mom can walk!!! she broke her foot the day after easter and has been using crutches or a wheelchair ever since! 3 months!!! way too long! well, this week she was given the ok to use a walking shoe/brace/cast! very exciting! she feels like a new woman!

way over due...

last week was really crazy and to be honest... this week wasn't all that much better! don't ya just love the summer!

i had the opportunity to go with 2 of the girls from my class at church to a retreat last week! it was at camp lomia in sardine canyon! so fun! this retreat was for all of the girls ages 16-18. we made cute little journals, played games and talked about our Savior! it was amazing! melissa and allie are darling and we had so much fun!

the retreat started on tuesday morning and they came home thursday morning. i went up as soon as i got off work both days! man, i love those girls!

then... friday was my friends, julie, birthday. ann, julie and i went to the rodeo friday night in logan! it was fun! ann is not a rodeo, dirt, horse or crowd person and wasn't all that excited to go. we sat in the second row and she asked us if it was safe to sit there.... "oh ya... the horses don't really come that close" we told her.

well... the first horse out of the gate came straight at us! lol! it was so funny! we all laughed so hard!

the next morning the 3 of us headed to bear lake for the weekend. we stayed in a cabin near pickleville playhouse. what a wonderful trip! we ate lots of junk, played games, watched movies, went to pickleville, stayed up late and relaxed at the beach!

thanks julie, for having a birthday! we all had a great time!

i hope all of you are doing well! i am heading out of town for the weekend again ... this time to visit my brother and then to see a play with my momma!

manti, utah...

last night our youth group went to manti, utah for the Mormon Miracle Pageant. it was AMAZING! i have been to this pageant more times than i can count and i enjoy it every time!

we had a great trip! the girls were great! the boys were awesome! they set up and took down our tents, provided dinner and breakfast, and were lots of fun! this was an activity that i am sure they will always remember!

this little clip shows several parts of the pageant! enjoy!

oh... the memories... long car rides... finding the perfect spot... escape for some ice cream... silly games in the grass... wonderful pageant... not enough blankets... up all night... tents zip tied shut by the boys... tent poles taken out... turkey for breakfast...

i would do it all again! ...maybe...

the "to do" list...

my cute friend dawn posted about her "to do" list and i was inspired to post about mine!

i will be honest here... i love "to do" lists! matter of fact if i do something that wasn't on "the list" i will usually add it to the list just so i can cross it off!

i have been very productive this week and i am proud of myself... doesn't usually happen to me...

here is a version of the "to do" list that i had this weekend:
~ clean basement
*get rid of boxes
*organize guest room
*wash guest bedding
*start putting yard sale stuff together
*sweep and mop basement
*organize kevin's work clothes
*go through random piles of "stuff"
~ take out trash and recycling
~ vacuum entire upstairs
~ clean off scrapbook table (i haven't seen the actual table in months!)
~ straighten living room
~ put laundry away
~ put dishes away
~ compile new music for blog

well, that is most of what i did the last 2 days! the girls at work were giving me a hard time because they didn't think i would get my basement done, let alone anything else! ha! i did it! and it feels great!

i love getting projects done! it makes me feel so good! if i could only do them all of the time! lol!

#3 : hell

so, my dad and i are huge fans of survivor...

and one of the cast members (erik) is from... HELL! (michigan that is!)

erik works at an ice cream shop in hell, michigan. my dad lives only about 30 minutes from HELL, so off we went! we even had ice cream at "Screams", the shop where erik works! let me tell you... it is really good to know that there is ice cream in hell... i would have missed it! lol!

erik is known for being the dumbest survivor ever... however, i think he was great. he is a very trusting guy that got suckered by the girls!

here is his bio from the show...

"Erik Reichenbach, a true SURVIVOR junkie, was too young to be in the first 14 seasons of Survivor. Reichenbach religiously studied the game from the comfort of his home, until he was of age to audition. Determined to play the game, Erik practiced his survival skills last summer off a small island in Florida. Reichenbach was born and raised in Pinckney, Michigan.

He is currently in his senior year of studying art at Eastern Michigan University, and is a member of the college's track team. Reichenbach works at an ice cream parlor called "Screams" in Hell, Michigan, where he also designs t-shirts, hauls canoes and entertains his customers. He previously worked in landscaping, construction and as a freelance graphic designer. His hobbies include drawing, writing comic books, rock-climbing and studying philosophy/religion. He describes himself as animated, earnest and familiar. He is very proud of his running accomplishments during his senior year of high school, where he set the school's 400 yard record (49.3 seconds), and being able to run in the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Carolina. Reichenbach is a member of the Eastern Michigan Cross Country and Track team, Pinckney Pirate Track and Field Alumni and a rock climbing club.

Reichenbach believes he'll go far on SURVIVOR because he is a good listener, entertaining, optimistic, athletic, a creative thinker and can easily be a leader or a follower. Reichenbach is currently single and lives in Ypsilanti, Michigan, with his cats, Furrball and Kittyfizzle (K-Fizz for short). His birth date is November 27, 1985. "

we started chatting with a couple of ladies that were working in the country store and then at screams! they were so nice and very proud of erik!

screams is also a halloween store! i love halloween! it was so fun! lots of little things for the holiday... most of them were for the scary halloween and i do much more of the cute and fun halloween... but it was still amazing!

i have to say... my overall experience to hell was great! i would love to go back! lol!

#1 : the Host

the day before i flew out to michigan for my trip i began to panic because i didn't have any books to read! i knew that i would be gone for over a week and i needed at least 3 books...

the host by stephanie meyer just came out that day and i love her as an author (she wrote the twilight series), so i went and bought this book! as i am waiting in line kevin asked me what the book was about and i told him that i had no idea! we chuckled about it and i read the inside cover.

as i read it i hoped that i would like it. it didn't really sound like something i would normally read! lol! too late now... i was buying it!

i started it on the plane the next day and it was a little confusing the first few chapters, but then all of a sudden it clicked! i got it! after that i couldn't put the book down! i read it all day! (good thing i had about 6 hours on a plane! lol!)

anyway... i really enjoyed it! and highly recommend it!

sweets and sours...

good morning friends!

i haven't done "sweets and sours" for quite awhile... so here you go!

sours:

* it snowed a few times this week! yuck! i am so sick of it! come on spring! we need you!!
sweets:
* it is saturday! i love the weekends! i don't have tons planned, which i love! kevin is off today too, so we will get some time together too! ya!

* i have been working out at curves the last couple of weeks. it is awesome! i signed up to do a free survey for them... and in doing so, get to work out there for 3-4 weeks! pretty cool! i am really enjoying it so far!

* this has been a roller coaster week for my friend jami. monday she was taken back to huntsmans cancer institute because she was getting really sick. but i am happy to say that she is back home again. she had an ulcer that was giving her lots of trouble. she is feeling much better... what a relief!

* i have blue nails! i got my nails done and they are a very pretty blue! it is funny... it took me forever to add some color to my life... nails... and now i don't want to go back to white! lol!

* i was able to attend 2 girls lacrosse games this week! 3 girls that i work with from church are on the logan high girls lacrosse team. this is a brand new team that was created by 2 of my girls that were interested in playing. the high school won't sponser them because they are so new, so the girls had to come up with all of the money and equipment on their own! they are learning more every time they play! it is so fun to go and cheer them on!

* in 3 weeks i will be going to the scrapbook expo with a few friends! i am so excited! we will have a great time! wahoo!

* my mom came to visit last weekend! we had such a great time! i love her so much!

* monday i went to a funeral for a good friend of mine when i was growning up. believe it or not... this really is a sweet. i had a wonderful visit with his family. what a great tribute they are to such a great man. here is his obituary:
Melvin R. JarvisOur loving husband and father, Melvin R. Jarvis, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 20, 2008.Mel loved his wonderful parents, Lehi and Claire Jarvis. A veteran of the Air Force, he was a Flight Radar Technician and was fond of telling stories from that period of his life. After his military service, he attended BYU, where he met his wife, Neomi. Over the 47 years that followed, they weaved a beautiful fabric of family and faith. Their eight children estimate that nearly 17,500 days of Mel and Neomi's marriage produced eight children, 20,000 diapers, 312 severely burned meals, and only a handful of trips to the emergency room. Their children are deeply grateful for Mel and Neomi's love and guidance. Mel has 24 grandchildren that he simply adores and who adore him.Mel's life was devoted to serving the Lord. He served countless people both in the LDS Church and in the community. Mel was awarded the Silver Beaver for lifelong service to the Boy Scouts of America. Because of his influence, his six boys are all Eagle Scouts. The troops he led only caused one fire beyond their own ability to control.Mel never met a strawberry pie he didn't like. He loved woodcarving and appreciated the great outdoors. Mel's wife and family will miss him and thank God for his love and exemplary life.
i was really close to 2 of his sons. when i think of people who made a huge difference in my life, i think of them. this whole family actually. i can honestly say that i wouldn't be who i am today if i had not known them. brother jarvis will be missed...
* kevin got a new muffler put on his truck this week! wahoo for him! it sounds really good! varoom!! (that last part was added by him.... typical boy! lol!)
i hope all of you have a great weekend!

thanks...

thanks to everyone for sharing your wonderful ideas! i really appreciate all of it.

in talking to jami and her mom, i have decided to do a pancake breakfast at sam's club on a busy saturday morning. i am still figuring out all of the details, but that is my plan!

i am also going to set a couple things up in the break room to allow the other associates to help too. we are going to do a little bake sale and a "souper" friday. these have been done before and are done on a honor system. they work pretty well!

on other news... my mommy is coming today! i am so excited to spend the weekend with her! she is starting to sell marykay and is going to give me a facial! so fun! we will just hang out and have a great time!

kevin and i bought a couch and bed this week! we are so excited about them! we need them both very badly! it sure is nice to have a little money from taxes and a bonus!!! :)

a very good friend passed away on thursday and his funeral is on monday morning. ann and i are going to go down for it. this man and his family were in my home ward growing up. i had crushes on at least 2 of his sons most of my teenage and college years! :) we all are still great friends, even after all of these years. he has been pretty sick the last few years, so this is a blessing. it is still hard and we will miss him.

i love easter! it is such a peaceful time of year.

i hope all of you have a wonderful weekend!
