a co-worker passed away this week. she was a single mom of 5. she was nice, quiet and kind. it is such a shock! we have rallied the last 2 weeks in raising money for her family. we held a bake sale at sam's club and raised almost $1300!! we will miss you colleen...

Colleen Barton (1965 - 2011)

Colleen Barton, age 45, of Logan, Utah, died Jan. 25, 2011, at the University of Utah Medical Center from complications related to acute respiratory distress syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia.
Colleen was born Dec. 14, 1965, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the fifth child of Clark and Cherrill Barton. She had a happy childhood in Bountiful, Utah. Colleen was always very active in church and was especially fond of Girl's Camp and other youth outings. Colleen moved during her high school years when her father's duties with the U.S. Air Force initiated a move to Avon Park, Fla.; then Holbrook, Ariz. Colleen is a graduate of Holbrook High School. She always enjoyed music, singing with numerous musical groups. Being a member of the Holbrook High School Flag Team was a highlight of her earlier years.
Colleen attended Weber State College in Ogden, Utah, and Utah State University in Logan, where she met her future husband Kelly Dale Kemp. They were married in 1986 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They had five children, Nathan, Kyle, Allison, Gary and Mellissa. They lived in Kearns, Utah, and Logan, Utah; they later divorced and Colleen continued to raise her family in Logan.
Colleen was a deeply spiritual person who cherished and served her Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. Her children were her life and she worked tirelessly to teach them honesty, love for others, faith in God and devotion to family. Her loving example and teaching has made her children unbelievably strong, resilient and united.
While living in Logan she was a very active member of the LDS Church, extremely involved with school and music for her children. She received and gave much support through her affiliation with Heart to Heart. She was a devoted friend, always willing to lend a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. She was universally loved because of her ability to accept and understand others without judgment. It is doubtful Colleen realized the extent of her enormous influence in the lives of her children, family and friends.
Colleen is survived by her children, Nathaniel Merrill Kemp (23), Kyle Riddell Kemp (21), Allison Kay Kemp (19), Gary Allen Kemp (16), Mellissa Rose Kemp (13); her parents, Clark Laws Barton, Cherrill Kay Barton (Oyler); her siblings, Jeffrey Clark Barton, Laurie Kay Anderson (Barton), Alan Glen Barton, Julian Dale Barton; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends too varied and numerous to mention.
The outpouring of love and support to Colleen, her children and family have been truly humbling and oh so appreciated. Colleen is with her Father in Heaven and knows without a shadow of a doubt that she was loved by all.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Logan 6th Ward Chapel located at 94 W. 600 South in Logan, Utah. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m., Funeral service at 11 a.m. The graveside service and burial will take place at 3 p.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery, 1640 E. Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah, 84010. Services by Lakeview Mortuary, (801)298-1564.

sweets and sours...

i haven't done this for awhile...

sours:

* inventory is tomorrow... i have a million things going on in my head of what i need to do in the next 20 hours! i sure hope i can get it all done!

* my poor grass is suffering... a couple of weeks ago the roofers were here to give us a new roof! that is good, however, they parked a massive size truck on my lawn for a week! i didn't dare put my sprinkler stuff out... i thought they would run it over! so my lawn was neglected for way too long! i water tons at night... so hopefully i can resurrect it! lol!

* i have been so busy the last few weeks because of inventory... done really nothing in my house! and to be honest, this upcoming week doesn't look too much better! (inventory, girls camp etc...) lol!

sweets:

* inventory is tomorrow! i thought it would never come! i am soooooooooooooo ready for it to be over and done! tomorrow at this time i will be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel! wahoo!

* i made some yummy lemon bars yesterday! mmmmmm! i can't stop eating them!

* girls camp is this week! very exciting! i am in charge of a couple activities... that is good... but it sure does add to my plate this week! oh well! i am super excited for camp! and this year is going to be so fun! i just know it! we have such a great group of girls, super cool camp leaders and a really fun theme!

* we are having a yard sale on august 2nd! wahoo! i love yard sales! they are tons of work, but super fun too! i can't wait to get rid of all that junk! ... i mean great stuff!

* i have a really great team at work! colleen and ann have really stepped up to the plate with inventory. i am so proud of them... i honestly could not have done it without them!

* jami is doing better. she had a trachea tube put in this week and they are seeing improvements. i havn't been able to visit her, but am hoping when my life slows down i can! i talk to jeff (her brother) every day, so i am kept in the loop of things.

* in a couple of weeks kevin and i are going to visit my stepdad. i haven't seen him in a few years, and kevin has never met him. that should be an adventure!

* my mom can walk!!! she broke her foot the day after easter and has been using crutches or a wheelchair ever since! 3 months!!! way too long! well, this week she was given the ok to use a walking shoe/brace/cast! very exciting! she feels like a new woman!

5 whole years!

last thursday was my 5 year anniversary at sam's club. it is a pretty big accomplishment!

i just got my 5 year pin and certificate. oh.. and my new 5 year name badge! i feel pretty special!

i don't think that i have ever had a job for that long! wow! go me!!! i did work at walmart before my mission and i was there for 4 1/2 years, but never more than that!

i really enjoy my job, most of the time. i work with a great group of people and have made lasting friendships.

in the 5 years that i have worked at sam's club, i have had 3 general managers, over 20 assistant/area managers, worked in 3 areas and have cross-trained in an additional 6 departments! only 4 people out of my original 25 people orientation/training still work there! and one of them is currently on my team!

i started off as a part-time cashier. i was hired on 9/13/02 and our brand new club didn't open until 10/10/02. about 3 months into my job i was taken to full-time. after 8 months as a cashier i was promoted to a c.o.s. (check out supervisor), however, it was a part-time position. i quickly became full-time again and worked in this position for about 2 years. in april of 2005 i was offered the position of audit lead. this job was a great opportunity for me. i was now in charge of the entire inventory for the club. i came into the position at a great time. they were heading into the "inventory season".

even with the stress of that i still felt like i was the lucky one. i said often, "i was just given better hours, less stress and more money!". who could ask for anything more.

in the 2 1/2 years that i have been the audit lead i have worked with 6 different associates. it has definitely been a roller coaster ride some days, but for the most part, i am happy. i have a great team right now and i appreciate all that they do to make my job easier! thanks colleen and ann! i couldn't do it without you!

and thanks sam's club! i am proud to be a part of your team!
